Moving Switches or APs Between Sites

Uplevel switches and APs can be relocated between customer sites freely; the Portal just needs to be told the move was intentional so the offline alerts clear.

Uplevel switches and access points can be moved between customer sites whenever you need to. The platform doesn’t lock devices to a specific site — but the cloud needs explicit acknowledgement that the disconnect was intentional, otherwise it’ll keep flagging the device as missing in case it’s actually a hardware failure.

That acknowledgement is just: remove the device from the original customer’s site in the Portal.

How to remove a device

Detailed steps for each device type live in their own articles:

What happens after removal

A couple of minutes after the deletion is committed:

  • The configuration database wipes the device from the original customer.
  • The red device down notification clears from that site.
  • The operations backend updates billing so the device is no longer charged against that customer.

The device is then ready to pick up its new identity when you plug it in at the destination site — it’ll appear there automatically.
